Buying a diamond is a major emotional and financial
investment, so it is important that you feel confident about what
you’re buying. Understanding the relevance of a diamond’s cut, clarity,
colour and carat weight allows you to make a proper comparison between
different diamonds, and to understand why one may be more valuable
than another. Also you may choose to purchase a diamond with an independent
diamond grading report by a recognized gem laboratory to help give
you confidence in your diamond selection. At
Exclusive Diamonds, we believe in educating our customers to help
them make a diamond selection that provides the best possible value
and quality for their investment.
The 4 C's, cut, clarity, colour and carat The
4 C's, cut, clarity, colour and carat together will affect the appearance,
rarity and value of any cut diamond. While not the only diamond
grading system being used in the world today; it is by far the most
universally accepted in North America. The Four Cs provide the jewellery
industry and jewellery consumer with a precise standard of comparison
when purchasing that rare and valuable gem that is diamond.
Diamond Grading Report
In
the 1950s, the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) developed
the first internationally accepted Diamond Grading System. This
system provides unbiased opinions of the characteristics of polished
diamonds by applying uniform criteria to their grading. The system
resulted in a standard report format, the Diamond Grading Report,
which is today the international standard for diamond quality documentation.
